Pendo Earth Foundation is a living innovation hub developing culturally grounded, plant-forward food solutions that reduce dependence on environmentally stressed ecosystems while supporting their regeneration and strengthening community resilience.
Rooted in Kenya, our work brings together food, culture, environment, and community.
We design and test solutions in real-world settings, ensuring they are not only sustainable in principle, but practical, affordable, and aligned with how people already live and eat.
Our work is grounded in the understanding that food systems are one of the most powerful drivers of environmental change, and one of the most effective levers for restoration.
Across our sites in Lake Victoria and Tigoni, we develop, test, and refine approaches that connect food, culture, community, and ecosystem restoration.
This allows us to move beyond theory — toward solutions that people can adopt, adapt, and sustain.

Spaces where sustainable living is experienced
Around Lake Victoria, fish is central to both diet and identity. It supports livelihoods, shapes cuisine, and anchors daily life.
Yet growing ecological pressure and declining stocks are making this system increasingly difficult to sustain. Declining fish populations are not only a food system challenge — they are a signal of deeper strain within aquatic ecosystems that communities depend on.
The Blue Food Transition Initiative works with communities to build a practical pathway forward. Rather than replacing traditions, we focus on evolving them — developing plant-based protein foods that are familiar in taste, accessible in cost, and rooted in local food culture.
From Matoso Village · Supported by Tigoni Hub
Develop culturally relevant plant-based protein foods
Support local production of plant-based ingredients
Work with households to integrate these foods into daily meals
Introduce plant-based options into community and institutional settings
By reducing reliance on fish consumption, this initiative helps lower pressure on aquatic ecosystems while allowing space for recovery and long-term regeneration.
Our work is structured across interconnected areas, each shaping and reinforcing the others.
Cultivating crops that support resilient, plant-based food systems while restoring soil health, protecting biodiversity, and reducing pressure on natural ecosystems.
Designing plant-based foods grounded in local culture, taste, and affordability.
Working directly with communities to support adoption, co-creation, and long-term change.
Creating spaces where sustainable, plant-forward living can be experienced and learned.
Providing refuge for rescued animals and grounding our work in compassion.
Each pillar shapes and reinforces the others — food systems, ecosystems, and communities, woven together as one.
For people, animals, and the environment.
